NEWS

Dear Friends,

There is a change coming…After 10 years of experiences, blessings and miracles with The Epilepsy Network here in Santa Cruz County, it’s time for us to move on to our next calling.  Our family will be moving to Costa Rica to begin our next mission, helping people there whose lives have been touched by epilepsy.

Terry Cuaresma, whom most of you know, and who has lovingly volunteered with our organization for the past seven years, will continue to hold Support and Information Meetings at the Live Oak Senior Center on a quarterly basis.  Terry is a Pharmacy Technician at Frank’s Pharmacy in Aptos.  We will be making changes to the website soon, and will post meeting dates.  The next Support and Information Meeting will be in September.

When we began, many people did not have computer access, so we had a guest computer in our Resource Center for their utilization.  The great need is no longer here like it was when we started 10 years ago---times have changed & we’ve seen more of these changes at the meetings over the last two years with the reduction in attendance.  We have to submit to new technological advancements---twitter, facebook, online chats and video conferencing ---all things that were not possible 10 years ago.  We would encourage you to utilize this technology, if you haven’t already, to educate yourselves from sources around the world that are now available to you via the internet.

While Costa Rica is still considered a third world country, two of their neurosurgeons were invited to the International Epilepsy Conference in Canada to present their very successful surgical procedure for epilepsy.  We will be working with them and with other neurologists and neurosurgeons at the Clinica Biblica Fundacion in conjunction with Dr. King-Stephens, and all the wonderful team at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco, to introduce Paul’s NeuroPace device.

Here are some Costa Rica neurology websites, if you speak Spanish

Here is their page of links, some of which you may want to check out; they include Harvard, UCLA and many other great links.

I will continue my email:  Susan@EpilepsyNetwork.org  and Terry can be reached at Terry@EpilepsyNetwork.org

Blessings to all of you and thank you so much for helping us to learn and grow so that we can better help others.
